Give Me Your Feedback

If you comment here what you want in the software, I will consider adding it next version.

What's new in Version 3 (current release):
1. Excellent PNG compression. Thanks to optipng and pngquant projects.
2. Better image resize algorithm. Image, especially PNG, looks better when dimension are reduced.
3. Live quality viewer when you choose folder to compress. It helps your to select correct compression parameters.
4. Added support to filter images based on size (greater than 'x').
5. Other minor fixes in JPEG compression to compress with optimum quality for images that are already compressed with Mass Image Compressor.
6. [Version 3.1 +] Saves JPEG more optimized and as "progressive jpeg" to load the image faster on webpages. It is important to many web developers (Thanks to JPEG-Turbo project)

Considering below for Version 4 (next). All may not be possible:

1. Right Click Compress. Try supporting right click to multiple images (to live upto name 'mass')
2. Bug fixes. Crash when monkey playing slider (quality and dimension) on slow machines. (Corrected in 3.1 Release)
3. If result is larger for 100% dimension, don't compress. (Corrected in 3.1 Release)

Future release:
1. Support WebP ? Problem: WebP is not very popular yet.
2. Support PNG Animation. Problem: PNG Animation is not supported yet by PNG group.
3. Easy "Actual" vs "Compressed" viewer. Complex UI when image dimensions are change. Any idea on how UI should look are welcome.

Image compression works by reducing the amount of visible information. So whereas the original picture might be able to display 65 million colors, since the eye can not differentiate between anywhere near this number of colors the software is going through and removing colors that are not needed. The actual complexity of the algorithms is far more complex than that, and beyond the scope of this response. But the threshold (assuming I understand your context correctly) has to do with how the algorithm decides what information to throw away and what information to keep, and thus will affect the resulting quality and size of the image after compressions. By the way to use this free Image Compression Tool http://www.imagecompression.org/

Love your products, but do you have a paid option that does not include your watermark in the Comments value of the file details? "Mass Image Compressor Compressed this image. https://sourceforge.net/projects/icompress/"

I would like to use this tool for professional purposes but don't have time to go remove this manually from every file. Please email me if you have an alternative.

WOW, what a compressor software, really amazing result.

Why did you delete my post?
I click "Compress all" on PNG files with the quality set to 10% and the files end up twice as big as before?
What am I doing wrong?

Hi,
can you add option to convert to webp?
Nowdays it is becoming more and more popular on the web and as well within the OSs.

And it allows suppertior compression.

Thank you!
Great Job!

Yogee said...

@kembreg I might have deleted by mistake.

Yogee said...

@kembreg, actually I read your post and felt I should add proper PNG compression. So, I delayed version 3 release to incorporate your feedback. Now the version 3.0 is release and it does much better compression.

Yogee said...

@putty, thanks for the info. Yes, I see that webp is great. I still need to do basic things like support via context menu etc. :) Once I am done with that, I will look into this.

Unknown said...

Can you put an option to delete blank images?

Bolt said...

Can you put an option to save preferences ? All times that i wanto to compress images i have to change %-Quality and %-size, it is not possible to save ?

Yogee said...

@vasco Bela, Sure. I will do that in next build. If I forget, please remind me :)

@Jordan Souza, I don't want to add many feature in MIC which generally people don't want to use. If you tell me what specifically you mean by 'blank image', I can give you some suggestion.

Hi yeah, could the next feature be to select what image types I want compressed? Say I just wanted to compress all my jpeg images and not the png and gif files? Also, a nasty issue w/ this program automatically compressing gif files is that it destroys animated gif files. That really needs to be avoided, selected option or not.

Albert H. said...

Also, having picked options save between sessions of use of the program would be great too. Having to manually set the options each time for image compression/resizing is a bit annoying.

Yogee said...

@Albert H. , all your suggestions are great! I will pick them up as soon as my laptop is fixed.

Unknown said...

can you include option to keep result below a certain size please,
(keep result below say 20 kb, or 15 kb)

it would be great,

awesome app btw, does what it says without any bs, and best in its genre.

thanks, keep up the great work.

#2nd suggestion

Add option for different extensions for outputs. Like jpg, png, bmp and other image extensions.

Awesome app.
Thanks

Thank you for sharing this great program. So far I've experienced 3 bugs while using it (these bugs are inconsistent, i.e. they sometime happen and might disappear if I restart the program or computer)

1.I once tried to compress a folder of PNG images to quality 99% and dimension 100%. While auto update preview is activated and file type set to "Don't change type", program says that the size could be reduced by around 20%, but, as I expected, the processed files are of the same size, so the preview gave a wrong preview.
This problem didn't disappear after I restart.

2. with the same setting as number 1 except the file type set to "save as jpeg", the processed files dimension are reduced to 99%.
This problem disappear after I restart.

3. When the file type set to "save as jpeg", the processed files' extension are inconsistent, sometimes jpg, sometimes jpeg.

I hope you could fix these problem or tell me what to do to fix it.
Thank you.

Cant use the program. Blocked by AVG. Reported Ransomware. Any suggestions?

Yogee said...

@buildmet , Sorry for late reply. It is free and open source software. There is voluntary donation to support the project but donation (or not doing so) doesn't do any change to the software. You can try adding this in exclusion list. https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?l=en&urlName=How-to-exclude-file-folder-or-website-from-AVG-scanning

Hello

Coffee on its way.
It will be great if you make same program for PDF files.

Hi

Useful software, but unfortunately when compressing files it changes de DPI of images to 96 dpi.

If you have for example an image format PNG with 300 DPI, after compression you obtain 96 DPI output.

The software doesn't keep the same DPI of the image.

Wish to fix that in your next release.

Unknown said...

Hi,

I just want to add that when you're going to fix software features, please keep in mind these points:

When resizing images, the output file must don't change the input settings of images:

* pixel of the image
* format of the image
* dpi of the image

And of course, a max gain of resizing.

Thanks a lot.

Yogee said...

I think by "pixel of the image", you mean size of the image. I think preserving DPI will correct that issue.
Image format doesn't change unless you don't specify.

Thanks, i need it right now (in the 4min) but beceause of that, it'll take me 15min to found good software that can compress 500 images in 512pixels...

Great Software! Very efficient in compressing multiple images. But I wish there was a feature where I can save the settings for future. For example, I have 2000x2000 images that I just need to compress without altering the image size. It's always set to New Dimension in % to 70. Sometimes I forget to fix that and have to re-do it. If you could add a feature that can fix that it would be great.

JKA said...

This software was awesome!

One thing that came to my mind:

After using this program one time on our server, with the limit of NOT compressing images that is smaller of 800kB. I compressed alot of images that was larger.

However, as the server keeps filling up with new images, i would like to run this program one more time in the future to save space again. How can i then avoid compressing the same files one more time?

Would it be possible to add a TAG to the images, so that MassImageCompressor knows it has already been compressed once and should not be compressed again?

Or a feature to ONLY compress images that is NEWER then a special date?

This would be very awesome for people who keep getting more images and needs to compress this image folder once every year or so.

Thanks for super product, i will paypal you!

leaki said...

To all hoping this software will ever get an update, just stop. You'll be disappointed. Waiting for nothing.

GeeBee said...

Hi. Great software! Would it be possible to add an option to keep the existing metadata (file modification date etc.)?

Yogee said...

@GeeBee, It already keeps original matadata. May be you want to use latest software. I don't have a Windows laptop so unable to update new version. If any contributor helps, it will be great (or if you find a contractor). This software was created in Visual Studio 2010.

Hi, Great program!

Does this support the preservation of XMP meta data? i.e tags/keywords I read EXIF Tags are preserved on source forge which I thought was keywords, but at least for me on 3.1 it seems to get rid of them, is there a config somewhere to change this?

cheers!

Looks like it has great functionality and a good reputation BUT I can't us it because it can't handle network drives. It doesn't see mapped drives (the old way) and it doesn't work connecting with \\192.168.1.91\images. All my other softwares work with mapped drives and connecting the new \\server way so it's nothing wrong with my computer.

Looking forward to see a version with support for network storage.

Yogee said...

@Wynannd : I don't understand your point. You need to select a directory to compress. It will compress ALL the images within the directory and subdirectory. You can choose not to change output format so both PNG and JPEG can be compressed without any substantial data loss.

Giles said...

I enjoy using your program, very nice. Seems the convert to PNG has some not nice compression, larger files than original and a lot of dots when you zoom in. Keeping native seems to work great.
A little confusing with always having a compressed directory, and a option for sub directories that is the overwrite feature. Kinda need to clean that up and make it clear. Are we over writing, and do you want to do sub directories. I found to overwrite without done sub directories, I just delete the compression folder.
Now for some useful features adds.
Instead of having to slide to 100%, how about keep original size checkbox.
How about Resize if X > ???? pixels or y > ???? pixels to 50% (Reduce those super large photos)
Masking on what files to do. *.jpg, *.jpeg, ....
Feature to restore original creation date, edit date of files (not meta data, but file system data)
Feature to add exif data such as: Note: Compressed 4/4/2021 with xxx options, or to add something like PHOTOS BELONG TO JOHN DOE WITH CC 2021... CONTACT JOHN@WEB.COM for rights to original photos.
Option to update tags without compressing files
Options to insert original file path into exif metadata. (Not sure why, but I think it would be cool, to figure out where that file came from after moving it to the 5th computer 10 years later. )

Hi,

Just installed this on Windows 10 computer. Trying to compress jpg images in bulk. It says it compresses them but there is nothing in the compressed output folder. I've tried a variety of settings, but nothing fixes it. I can see the preview of the image fine, so it is reading them in the folder, but no output images.

Hi,

Thanks @Yogee, your software is very useful.

These are some suggestions i would like to see in next version :) :

-Support for just on file or selected files, not necessaarly an entire folder.
-Drag and drop files and or folders (multiples) from windows explorer to Mass Image Compressor
-Ability to paste an image file from clipboard
-Ability to copy a result file compressed to clipboard
-Before/after comparaison preview
-Preview of all files, even ones in subfolders
-Crop feature
-Add to windows contextual menu for supported files
-French translation
-Portable version

Thanks :)

So many wonderful suggestion here. It is really encouraging. I hope next version that I am working on can incorporate those suggestion to make everyone's life bit more light and wonderful :)

Hi @Yogee :) ,

Very happy to read you're working on a new version, good luck :) .

I still often use your software for mass compression, but for file by file compression, I use "Squoosh" wich is very good, in particular its "Before/After" comparison feature. It could be great to have a similar comparison feature in Mass Image Compressor.

Thanks for your work

In 2022, still is a great tool for bulk processes. Just need more extension support such as TGA, Webp .. Or in-built PNG converter for other file extensions.

taff said...

hi great tool but when bulk compressing it stops without completing and just hangs, example 4000 pics compression stops at 1400. Have tried all versions but same in all

Can you please send screenshot to me at gmail address: "yogendrasinh"?

Your Mass Image Compressor is the best. THANK YOU for creating it.
However, one MINOR request: Could you change to option to save as JPEG to JPG?
Again, thank you for such an excellent app.

Torsten Heinze said...

What a great image compressor! I love it ... better than ImageMagick!

I only have ONE request please, if possible. When converting images to keep date/time stamp of file when overwriting. So let's say original image file was saved 02/03/2016. When converting to new image it should be also saved as created 02/03/2016 and not the day converted. You can make this an option?

If you can make this happen, I buy you a case of German Beer :-)

Cheers!

Tengo windows 11

¿Pueden darme una solución?

Gracias!!

Is there a way to compress images from a whole server that has multiple images in multiple folders and all images be left back in the folders which they came from if its not possible im willing to pay for that to be made.

Yogee said...

@raul felix: You can contact me at gmail address: "yogendrasinh"

Yogee said...

raul felix , the said feature is already there, "Compress Images of all directories", will overwrite existing files (png, jpeg - all image files) and reduce all images with a directory and its subdirectories. contact my gmail id is yogendrsinh so you can just at @gmail.com and send me the mail if you want to discuss more.

Great flexibility in how much to compress and how one wants it done, and works well for me so far! One question I have for a future update would be, could the ability to rename each file being compressed as it transfers the file to a new folder? I would be interested in changing files from the numeric file name to a descriptive name such as House-001, which then labels all files numerically from there. House-001, House-002, House-003.....and so on.

Nice work!

tutur said...

Hey, it's annoying that mass image compressor open an image for preview because then that's the only image that cannot be moved elsewhere on disk if MIC is still opens. And obviously this happens all the time + this preview is completely useless to me anyway and I'd rather not have it interfere with moving files.
Possible solution: add a toggle to not display any preview or get rid of the preview if that doesn't impact other users.
